KATA FOR DAILY IMPROVEMENT IN HOSPITALS
Wednesday, March 11, 2020; Burlington MA Lean practices promote efficiency, safety, and team-oriented work in hospitals. The “Improvement Kata” and “Coaching Kata” are Lean tools used by managers looking for a new and effective way of managing their direct reports. They fit in well with healthcare. Get a detailed overview of Kata and how it can be an effective tool for hospital managers and leaders. This course helps hospitals develop coach and learners and guides them through the Improvement Kata (IK) and Coaching Kata (CK) process. Kata learners develop Target Conditions and use a tool called “5-Questions” each day as a way to keep employees focused and advancing towards it. Employees learn to use the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) Cycle to improve daily by leveraging their knowledge and experience of their own processes. Over time the Kata technique helps organizations gain huge benefits by developing a culture of “Everybody Everyday” engagement. Read more & register. LEAN IN HEALTHCARE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM Starts Friday, May 8, 2020 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston MA Hospitals are challenged continually to improve quality and reduce costs as they deliver improved care to patients. At the same time, complex processes and equipment and supply issues can frustrate the efficient delivery of care. This course teaches leaders, managers, and staff how to apply real process-improvement and problem-solving techniques in an actual hospital setting. This intense eight-day course provides participants with hands-on experience learning and applying both the technical science and social science of lean. The technical science of lean focuses on learning and applying lean tools and techniques, while the social science aspect of it focuses on people and organizational development. Both are necessary for an effective lean implementation. Read more & register. ![]() The 17th Annual Northeast Lean Conference

"Ron, I just wanted to share feedback with you from the October GBMP class at Concord Hospital. You received rave reviews from the participants - the class really enjoyed and appreciated all the hands-on activities, especially the Operation game. Thank you for taking time with this class to engage in meaningful dialogue, share real-time healthcare project examples, and give them ample opportunities to apply the tools in class. I very much appreciated that you were flexible in modifying the time spent at the Gemba due to high census and staffing shortages--the way you delivered the message was perfect! Thanks again for making this class a great one for all!" Heather Larivee, Lean Six Sigma Improvement Specialist, MS, ALM, LSSGB, Lean Operations, Concord Hospital, Concord NH
"Dan, I wanted to drop you quick note of thanks for a really great experience during the Lean Certificate course. We are looking forward to implementing Lean in our work everyday.” Meg Luizz, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth
"GBMP has really helped our employees learn how to collaborate to address problems using targeted lean tools, thinking and methods. The changes that have been implemented enhance both the patient and employee experience, and most importantly demonstrate to our staff that they can be the creators of good changes on a daily basis.” Kelly Muir, Practice Administrator, Boston Children's Hospital
